Have a cutting edge on your fitness with YOGALATES

>

It's no secret that yoga and pilates have serious benefits for your health, but especially for pro athletes competing at high levels, it really pays dividends.

Are you a surfer, footballer, boxer, swimmer, soccer player or tri athlete wanting a cutting edge? When an athlete of any kind take the time out for what could be active recovery, rest or even incorperating Yogalates into their strength sessions they have the capacity then to align the body and the mind. Pilates and Yoga are quite different from each other, and it is the differences that we find many of the complementary aspects of the two that make them such a great team. Pilates alone focuses mainly on the core strengthening while Yoga focuses on stretch and stability. Yogalates almost becomes a form of crosstraining which has been a concept of fitness around for as long as I can remember, benefiting from many types of exercise movement combined for the strongest and fittest results. You will find the core strength and integration you can develop in pilates supports you with daily activities as the movements mimic those we do day to day, whereas  those who also do Yoga, Pilates gives them the stability that they need to control and expand their yoga poses safely. Conversely, the expansive stretching in yoga provides a wonderful balance to the typically more core orientated and sometimes rigid pilates exercises. Yogalates is the perfect way to recover from a stressful day, training session and be a step ahead for the next intense training session. Improve your balance, strength, power, abaility to burn calories faster, mind clarity and better training results.

Michelle usually completes a Yogalates class with meditation, returning the nervous system and adrenals back to a rested state diluting any kind of stress in only 5-10 minutes completing the class. Combining the two skills 'mind and body is underestimated, until your try it. Everyone I know who meditates has accomplished something in their lives they never have before. Whether it be decreasing stress in your work life, healing from an illness, escaping like you do reading a book, enlighten your day and come out with confidence and a clear head. The true measure of greatness is accomplished when you are able to maintain a centred state of mind while in a game and allowing instincts to take over.

Yogalates can be used as a rehabilitative system. The class can be adjusted for a wide range of people and fitness levels, and both support the achievement  of very high fitness levels of body, mind, spirit and fitness.

While yogalates can enhance your fitness and strength levels, it is important to remember that both Pilates and Yoga are each very full, distinct and sophisticated diciplines. Getting to know either of them and experiencing their full benefits to reap the rewards that one teacher can teach takes time and regular practice.

Please feel free to check out our timetable for Pilates class times and our Yogalates class on Thursday nights.
