Shop Smarter, Eat Better

>

One of the most common mistakes people make with their food choices starts when their hungry.

How many times have you gone shopping hungry? How many times have you decided to eat before you go?

Eating regular snacks will free your mind from wanting high sugar, high fat content foods due to the simple fact, when your blood sugar levels are depleted your mind tells you what food choice would give you the immediate satisfaction mentally and physically to quickly increase blood sugar levels.

Think ahead before you head out to the shops next time. Sit down, eat before you go and write a list of the foods you NEED.

Pacing the supermarket isles on an empty stomach will very quickly lead to impulse, naughty food choices that you'll regreat later. You'll find yourself reaching for biscuits and cakes instead of the pantry necessities.

On a nutritionally full stomach your mind will be at ease, sticking only to the shopping list and healthy food choices low GI and fat.

Most of our hunger is a mental hunger, not a physical hunger!

'Bupa and The George Institute' have releaseda new iPhone app to help you make the right food choices too. The app allows you to scan the barcodes of packaged foods while you're shopping and get a 'traffic light' signal green or red in terms of their salt and other nutritional contents. The app also goes one step further in suggesting healthier alternatives you may want to buy.
