Why can it take so long to see weight loss results

What is going on at a cellular level?

Losing weight for most people is difficult for many reasons. It's not as simple eating less calories and burning more Kilojoules. Like many things, it's all about balancing your whole life out.

Some lose weight easier than others and it may not necessarily be that that they're working harder, but instead their bodies are better programmed to losing weight already due to the lifestyle they are from to begin with.

A professor of Exercise Science and epidemiology at the university of North Carolina, Blaire is a living example of how fat does'nt play fair. Genes and Hormonal imbalances have a huge role in obesity. The great news is, you can change your metabolism. For all those that have trained with me with similar goals in the past 12 years have known me to use the phrase, "We just need to find the key to unlock your fat desposits and torch them away for good."

So what actually has such a big influence on weight loss, fat loss and reprogramming our bodies?

Genes - Tall, dark, short or freckled, few of these traits we cannot control but instead learn to love what we are dealt with but a genetic predisposition to having more fat cells can negatively affect one's self esteem and their inner health. The good news is, it does not have to be your life sentence. Exercising regularly and eating right for a long time not a short time can offset the risk.

More fat cells - Even if youv'e lost kilo's in the past or just recently again. Those who put on weight in the first place will always find it more difficult to lose weight again further down the track. Your fat cell-count will always remain but shrink until once filled up again. The good old saying, burn that fat away unofunatley isn't really possible, and as all this may seem depressing you CAN do many things to keep the fat cells small.

Stress - Your body reacts to every stress in exactly the same way every time you put it under. Every time you have a stressful situation your brain instructs your cells to release potent hormones. A burst of adrenaline which releases stored energy to fight or flee, cortisol is released at exactly the same time which tells your body to replenish that energy even though you havn't used very many calories. This increases hunger, and the cortisol continues to pump through the body until the stress decreases.

Your life in the womb - Cigarettes decrease birth weight and alcohol can brain damage a baby so why wouldn't eating an unhealthy diet wreak havoc? A Pennington study reports that overweight females have higher levels of glucose and free fatty acids floating around the body than that of a normal-weight female. These molecules trigger the release of protein that can upset the appetite-control and metabolic systems in the brain.

Lack of sleep - With more than 7-8 hours sleep a day people have a great sense of fullness and can spontaneously lose weight. Just like the previous message regarding corisol release when the body is stressed, without enough sleep and rest of the body and mind people become physically and mentally tired further on stress resulting in poor and obsessive eating habits, decreased self esteem and a body running off adrenals constantly. Stress and lack of sleep work hand in hand with weight gain on many levels there is no wonder why counting sleep patterns is programmed into the latest fitness watches to help establish part of a healthy lifestyle.

Living with healthy/unhealthy family member's - Weight loss or gain can be contageous. Whether it be your motivated husband looking spectacular and fit receiving constant complements about his fit fine body or the slug on the couch that constantly convinces you to quit the gym membership, save money and try this dessert once again - you won't regret it! If you can have the whole family on board with a healthy lifestyle regime, good news is you'll all the more likely succeed. Cooking healthy for everyone rather than time consuming seperate meals will benefit the cook, cleaner and the rest of the families weight. Supportive enthusiasm and motivation would be shared all round around if everyone understands eachothers goals, following the same healthy lifestyle. No need to hide a healthy lifestyle. Be proud, everyone want's to look and feel great!

The bottom line is - we all need fat cells to protect our internal organs, store energy and vitamins used to make different hormones we need to transmit messages to certain parts of the body. To lose weight you'll need to learn how to control your cravings, recognise negative and positive eating patterns whilst only having a meal when necessary. You need to be in it for the long haul if your aim is to decrease body fat and or lose weight. Try balancing your health and fitness regime with a variety of exercise including less intense cardiovascular and fat burning techniques that provide stress relief like Yoga and Yogalates where you can dilute mental and physical demands built up whilst strengthening the body and mind.

Lifestyle balance will see you achieve your goal everytime, just expect it will be a journey and enjoy it along the way as you learn how your body works.
